About Me

General Surgery & Undergraduate Medical Education Clerkship Director

I perform a wide variety of abdominal surgeries; some of the most common are hernia repair and gallbladder surgery. Hernia repair includes inguinal, ventral, incisional and hiatal. Spine exposure is another one of my main areas of focus and expertise. I also enjoy abdominal wall reconstruction because it helps a group of patients who are really struggling in their everyday life with a very difficult surgical problem. The technical aspects of my job are very exciting and require a lot of concentration, preparation and precision.

As a surgeon, you can make very drastic and immediate changes in people’s lives. I love the relationships that I am able to develop with my patients. It’s not just about getting them in and out of surgery. When I am able to develop a one-on-one relationship, it builds trust, and the recovery is better both emotionally and physically. I see a lot of people that have very challenging physical problems but very strong spirits that allow them to make a full and meaningful recovery. That is truly inspirational for me.

Some of my proudest accomplishments include working in the US Virgin Islands, Thailand and Mexico to help improve healthcare. I was also able to do volunteer surgery in Haiti after the earthquake. That was one of the most rewarding experiences I’ve had in my career. Learning about different global medical perspectives has been one of my most valuable learning tools throughout my career.

During my time off, I enjoy cooking. I also love snow skiing, archery and running.
