Memorial Rehabilitation Institute Driving Assessment Program helps you know if you are 'safe to drive'. Your ability to drive safely can be affected by:

  • Age-related changes
  • Cognitive or memory changes
  • Neurological disorders
  • Orthopedic disorders
  • Progressive diseases
  • Traumatic incidents, such as a stroke or brain injury

Our program will assess your abilities and provide recommendations and assistance if needed.

How Our Program Works

Safe to Drive Assessment Process

Once you have a prescription referral from your physician and a valid driver’s license, you’re ready to get started.

  1. Call 954-518-5542 to schedule your assessment with Memorial Rehabilitation Institute Outpatient Center
  2. You’ll receive a follow-up call to review your driving history
  3. Take your clinical assessment
  4. If recommended, take a behind-the-wheel assessment in our program vehicle, specially equipped for your safety

After your assessment, you can expect one of the following:

  • We will sign off that you are safe to drive
  • You will receive recommendations for vehicle adaptations and training to use it once you are able to obtain any needed equipment
  • If your assessments determine you are unsafe to drive, we will provide you with recommendations for community resources, including public transportation or other services
