Tea for the soul: Healing the hearts of oncology nurses

April 24, 2024

Tea for the soul event Jackie Angora RN, Meghan Manthorpe, BSN, RN; and Maria Weinstein MSN, RN represented Memorial Healthcare System and Memorial Cancer Institute at Oncology Congress in Washington DC.

Acknowledging that the emotional health of our nurses is a priority, Meghan Manthorpe, oncology nurse educator and Jacqueline Anorga, bone marrow transplant nurse were motivated to establish a nursing support group called “Tea for the Soul”. The goal of the peer group was to create interventions to address nursing turn over, burn out, and compassion fatigue. “Tea for the Soul” has not only been a well-received intervention on the Malignant Hematology Oncology and Cellular Therapy unit at Memorial Hospital West, but it has received the attention of other healthcare organizations seeking to adopt a similar practice.
