Memorial Regional Hospital Earn Highest Level Recertification for Geriatric Fracture Program
March 22, 2023
The Geriatric Fracture Care program at Memorial Regional Hospital has been recertified at the Premier Level, the highest available, by the International Geriatric Fracture Society (IGFS). It is the only certified program in Florida and joins a small collection of trailblazing fracture care programs in the United States that have achieved recertification through the IGFS CORE Certification Program.
“Congratulations to Dr. Daniel Chan, Jessica Jimenez-Chung, Tracy Meltzer, and the entire team for all of your efforts,” said Julie Switzer, MD, IGFS president. “Your patients are benefiting from your stellar operational patient management and your commitment to performance improvement.”
The CORE Certification Program is a global quality improvement initiative designed to recognize the achievements of programs that exceed outcome benchmarks in the management of geriatric fractures. In receiving this recognition, Memorial Regional Hospital’s team of dedicated professionals have illustrated their ability over the past two years to achieve sustained outcomes that outperform the clinical quality and performance improvement benchmarks as identified by the IGFS.
“This certification demonstrates Memorial Regional Hospital’s continuing dedication to providing the best multidisciplinary care for our geriatric fracture and orthopedic trauma patients,” said Daniel Chan, MD, chief of Orthopaedic Surgery and Sports Medicine and the medical director for Orthopedic Trauma at Memorial Healthcare System. “We lead the community in ensuring that these vulnerable patients get the best possible surgical and peri-operative medical care in order to minimize complications and optimize outcomes.”
The mission of the IGFS is to promote co-management of fragility fractures centered around an inter-disciplinary team that focuses on key quality indicators such as time to surgery, readmission rates, mortality, and osteoporosis education. The CORE Certification Program was developed by the IGFS team of international experts representing thought leaders in Asia, Europe, North America, and South America. This is the first major initiative of the organization to recognize achievements of Geriatric Fracture Care Programs that are delivering the highest quality care to this patient population.
