Memorial Regional Hospital South

Memorial Regional Hospital South lost partial air conditioning in two of its six floors around 9 am today.

Several patients were safely moved to other areas of the hospital for their personal comfort.  Spot coolers were also placed in affected areas to maintain appropriate temperatures inside the facility, according to Maggie Hansen, Senior Vice President and Chief Nurse Executive for Memorial Healthcare System.

The hospital did not lose power at any time, but in an abundance of caution, some elective surgeries were rescheduled.

The Emergency Department was briefly placed on diversion for rescue vehicles, while hospital officials accessed the situation. All patients who were in the emergency room were cared for and treated, and the emergency room was fully operational by 10 am.

“As a healthcare system, we are prepared for these kinds of emergencies, and we have plans and procedures to safely manage our patients,” Hansen said.
 
The air conditioning is expected to be fully operational by 2 pm today.
