Five Memorial Healthcare System hospitals earned straight As from The Leapfrog Group – the highest grade given by the organization for commitment to keeping patients safe and meeting the highest safety standards in the U.S.

The Leapfrog Group is a national nonprofit health care ratings organization that assigns letter grades ranging from A-F to more than 2,600 hospitals across the country. The group uses 27 national performance measures to grade hospitals, and these include preventing medical errors, infections, accidents, injuries and other harms.

Memorial Healthcare System hospitals received outstanding marks across all five adult hospitals after a longstanding system-wide commitment to make Memorial the safest health provider in the nation. These hospitals include Memorial Regional Hospital, Memorial Regional Hospital South, Memorial Hospital West, Memorial Hospital Miramar and Memorial Hospital Pembroke.

“This news is a tremendous tribute to the team members at each Memorial facility who stepped up to improve patient safety,” said Aurelio M. Fernandez, III, FACHE, President and Chief Executive Officer, Memorial Healthcare System. “These grades are also a reflection of how well we serve the people who matter most: our patients and their families.”

Developed under the guidance of a Blue Ribbon National Expert Panel, the Leapfrog Hospital Safety Grade assigns grades to hospitals twice per year from publicly available hospital safety data. The grades are calculated by top patient safety experts, peer reviewed, fully transparent and free to the public.

“It takes consistent, unwavering dedication to patients to achieve the highest standards of patient safety. An ‘A’ Safety Grade recognizes hospitals for this accomplishment,” said Leah Binder, president and CEO of The Leapfrog Group.
