History of GME at MHS

GME at Memorial grew from Dr. Stanley Marks vision of Memorial one day becoming an academic health center.  In 2015, Memorial received institutional accreditation from the ACGME and Dr. Saima Chaudhry was hired as DIO. The original plan called for 166 trainees in 9 programs. Since this time, we have far surpassed Dr. Marks’ original vision, in size and scope, even through the COVID-19 pandemic.  In 2023, MHS received Statutory Teaching Hospital designation from the state of Florida, in recognition of its substantive creation of new GME programs. We now exceed 14,000 applications per year from applicants hoping to train in the 273 accredited positions in the Memorial Healthcare System.
